SCULPTURES BY MATT MCNICHOLS

Matthew McNichols is a painter and sculptor that uses everyday found objects - primarily cardboard and styrofoam packaging - to create freestanding and wall-mounted "trash" sculptures. More architectural embellishments, or miniature architectures in themselves (than actual ART) -  the sculptures, teetering on the edge of the landfill's abyss, long to be useful and real, at least in the imaginations of viewers. Influenced by science-fiction cinema and the pre-Columbian art and design of the Americas, the art ends up being an installation about the space created.
